When a Bird Hits Your Window...

Finally found ArtRage for the Mac, and decided to test it out.

ArtRage3 is definitely easier to manipulate than the previous PC version I'd been using, and a bit more intuitive with the tablet on the Mac. The following is the first test.

Teleport to the Command Center.

So, I haven't posted since March--which is about the time I started Student Teaching at the High School level. Coincidence? I doubt it. I haven't done much in the way of creating anything in the last couple months, so forgive the lack of updates.

With that said, I have been doing some other things to keep myself busy. Such as moving. Shaking. Rattling, also rolling, etc.,.

Speaking of moving. I'm quite proud of my new set-up. A set-up which should allow me no excuses in regards to creating or working on art-related things.

DUAL MONITORS. I scored that little doggle for my Macbook, the one that allows me to hook it up to a separate monitor. So, lets just say I did that. And by vaguely suggesting that, I mean I totally did.

So two monitors, hooked to the Mac. Tablet in tow. Now, its just a matter of remembering how to use the tablet in accordance with the Mac, as opposed to the PC, which is now collecting some dust.

As it should.

ALSO. You might have noticed that slick little Batman statue. And by 'little' I mean decently sized. Large. Adequate. Its Jim Lee based, from the DC Universe Online Collector's Edition (which, thanks to SONY, I haven't been able to play). So that's my Batman statue. And I might be in love with it. But you didn't hear that from me.

Now that that's out of the way. I should make something. But I'm bereft of ideas. So, if you feel so inclined--Hit me up, I work pretty cheap.

I think I might be getting closer to doing the kind of illustration I want with Painter....I'm ok with how it turned out, for my first foray into the program.



Thoughts?

The Execution of All Things.

Corel Painter is currently the bane of my existence, to an unfortunate degree. I plan to conquer it, and stand proudly upon it's skull.

Really, its a neat program, but its also insanely strange. I've learned to manipulate Photoshop and my Wacom Tablet to be somewhat effective, and get results kind of close to what I want. I'm a huge fan of digital painting, especially the speed paintings you can find on Youtube. Over some time, I realized they were mostly using Corel Painter, a program I had only minor interactions with.

In the long run I hope to be able to get the kind of feel/effect as artists like Roberto Campus. While spending some hours with Painter, I've come to realize that I have to completely un-learn all the things I thought I knew while using Photoshop.



This is my current project, the Robin Chick. I decided to do some life based art, while trying to somewhat keep my interest. Thie previous image was probably a couple hours into working with the program, trying to figure out the ins and outs of the brushes.

At that point in the process, I was hating it. Almost fed up to the point of not using Painter anymore. Then I looked back over Campus' work, and he said something in his blog that kind of answered what I needed to do and wanted to achieve:
"One factor to consider during the sketching process is that if you stop too often to THINK, rationalize, analyze what you are sketching from your imagination, you may interfere with your right hemisphere while it is hard at work, attempting to translate the image in your mind’s eye to your hand and then the paper/screen. Let it be an automatic process. Just let it flow."

So, I needed to find some semblance of flow, and simplicity. Let go of needing complete control, and detail. I'm still working, this next picture is probably the closest saved jpeg to what I'm currently working on:
