Rex Jetpack: WWII Historian.
I feel like Rex is such a ridiculous character, but insanely marketable. He reminds me of something from the mid 90's, where everything was eXTREEM, and insane.
I was talking to a buddy of mine, and we're looking into making a quick/easy (easy for someone who knows how to do it) flashgame based on Rex Jetpack. So, we'll see how that goes. Where we want a Physics Based T-Rex Game, it might only be possible to make a Gradius style game. ( Gradius )
Which is fine by me, because I love Gradius.
Does any one else know anything about making flash games, or weird 2d games? I'm curious.
Physics Based T-Rex Game.
Ridiculous.

Rex Jetpack: Secret Agent.
Another project from my art education class. This one was for a self designated lesson plan, and I chose to do a Superhero based plan.
The product?
None other than Rex Jetpack: Secret Agent.
Art Education Work.
If you can even call it that.
What follows are some of the pieces I've done for my Methods & Materials of Art Education class. I'll go so far as to say that its my own spin on the assignments given. Not everyone did something like this.
First up is the Rainforest craypas project, done on black paper.
Then there's this one...A "Special place" project, where we did different treatments to white paper, like dish soap and paint, bubbles and paint, sponges, salt and water colors, etc... Then ripped the pieces of paper to make a landscape.
Mine turned out more like a Mario Bros. background level...
Next is a Spirit Mask project, based on learning about West African Spirit masks.
Each of these pieces has one or two corresponding lesson plans, breaking down what needs to be done to teach such a project.
This is what i do at grown-up-school.

Like all dread glimpses of truth...
I did this on my sketchpad for my friend PJ. It's a pretty shoddy picture, cause I took it with my macbook's camera, so I'll probably scan it at a later date.

Raphael is a Big Dumb Idiot.
After the Turtles in Time remake hit last week, some friends and I were talking about how Raphael always seemed like the biggest/slowest turtle....but I never really noticed many illustrations of the turtles with different body types.

Ogre Winter.
Just started.
I snagged some books for references...
Art of The Clone Wars
Art of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Litch King
and some others...But I got these because all of the art, and sketches are done via tablet, so I figure I might get some inspiration, find some new techniques.

Minor, Distant Dark Places.
I feel like I want to be done with this picture. I didn't end up including the background, mostly because I haven't gotten the hang of it.

Bossanova...Chevy Nova?
I've been posting a bunch of new pictures, mostly finished, but no real WIP ones. This is the latest thing I'm working on, and its in its very early stages. I figure/hope the end result is relatively big, and decent.
Right Away, Great Captain.
Artrage and photoshop mixed seem to be pleasant bedfellows. A couple hours of work after reading a few chapters from some art books, and I might be getting the hang of some things.
I intended (still intend...?) to make pin-up style illustrations, as well as old Scifi/horror/pulp posters. This is the first step in that direction, I guess?

HEY...its me, Trale LEWOUS.
So, I became really enamored with this guy on Youtube, after finding his video of a character he does called Kieth Apicary (You could call him a neo-geo-nazi). After looking for him, I found possibly my favorite set of youtube videos ever, where Nathan Barnatt (You've seen him on tv commercials)plays his character Trale Lewous.
I doodled this in a couple minutes with the Wacom tablet.
Ever since now, I can draw Trale Lewous all the time, whenever I want. Or six.
That's awesome.

Immaculate Horseshoes.
I got a new program, Sketchbook Pro, and I'm digging it. I've been able to doodle some stuff rather quickly, and the program seems to be streamlined for just that. I've seen some videos of people doing some crazy things with it, but for now I'll stick to sketching.
A buddy of mine IMed me on a whim, I guess, and wanted to talk comics. Sent me a script he's working on, and asked if I'd take a crack at it. I agreed, with the stipulation that I could use it as practice with the new programs I got, as well as the new tablet I'm going to be getting.
I won't go into plot details, but here are a few sketches I did over an hour or so, based on his draft he sent.

Pavlov's Dog.
This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen since I saw individual packages of single colored M&Ms at Wal Mart this afternoon.
What could be left unsaid about asteroids that wasn't cleared up by Armageddon? Really, I'm curious. Someone enlighten me.
"Universal has won a four-studio bidding war to pick up the film rights to the classic Atari video game "Asteroids." "
Four studios weregunning for this property?! What the hell is wrong with people?

Moving in Stereo.
I think I might be getting closer to doing the kind of illustration I want with Painter....I'm ok with how it turned out, for my first foray into the program.
Thoughts?

The Execution of All Things.
Corel Painter is currently the bane of my existence, to an unfortunate degree. I plan to conquer it, and stand proudly upon it's skull.
Really, its a neat program, but its also insanely strange. I've learned to manipulate Photoshop and my Wacom Tablet to be somewhat effective, and get results kind of close to what I want. I'm a huge fan of digital painting, especially the speed paintings you can find on Youtube. Over some time, I realized they were mostly using Corel Painter, a program I had only minor interactions with.
In the long run I hope to be able to get the kind of feel/effect as artists like Roberto Campus. While spending some hours with Painter, I've come to realize that I have to completely un-learn all the things I thought I knew while using Photoshop.
This is my current project, the Robin Chick. I decided to do some life based art, while trying to somewhat keep my interest. Thie previous image was probably a couple hours into working with the program, trying to figure out the ins and outs of the brushes.
At that point in the process, I was hating it. Almost fed up to the point of not using Painter anymore. Then I looked back over Campus' work, and he said something in his blog that kind of answered what I needed to do and wanted to achieve:
"One factor to consider during the sketching process is that if you stop too often to THINK, rationalize, analyze what you are sketching from your imagination, you may interfere with your right hemisphere while it is hard at work, attempting to translate the image in your mind’s eye to your hand and then the paper/screen. Let it be an automatic process. Just let it flow."
So, I needed to find some semblance of flow, and simplicity. Let go of needing complete control, and detail. I'm still working, this next picture is probably the closest saved jpeg to what I'm currently working on:
I suppose I'll keep updates on my progress on this blog...thing.

Stupid Robot.
I've been messing around with the idea of having some form of legitimate blog for a while now. Someplace to drop in whatever I might be working on. But due to school and being generally lazy, I never got around to it. But considering I'm out of school (for now), I've got nothing but time, really.
I did this poster to transfer onto a silk screen. Its about 18x24, and only took a couple hours to sketch and ink.
As far as a list of everyone in there, here's a decent start:
Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Dragonzord, Megazord, Astroboy, Big Guy, Astro Robo, Iron Giant, C3-PO, Krang, T-800, Gir, Tom Servo, Crow t. Robot, Bender, Megaman, Rush, R2-D2, Sentinel, Ultron, Voltron, Cygor, Mecha Turtle, Lost In Space Robot, Various Dr. Who robots and Magnemite
